There was a newspaper cartoon (can't recall which election - 79 maybe) - of a car which had swerved left into a tree, and Foot and Benn saying they should have swerved further left to miss the tree ... which would have taken them over a cliff edge ...
Nothing changes, apparently, no matter how many times the lesson is delivered. Blair or one like him would have won y'day by a mile I suspect - but he's not pure enough, so he won't do. For once I agree with Ralf y'day - momentum are a bunch of c**ts, and whilst they have control, the Labour party is toast - to everyone's (and I mean everyone's) huge disadvantage.
