"He was seen “very quickly” and given a bed and oxygen in A&E.
A few hours later she was told the bed was needed for another patient."
So he had been seen twice in A&E where he was for several hours.
They wouldn't have discharged him from A&E unless they were satisfied it wasn't an emergency. Yes its not ideal he then had to wait in a chair but none of this has actually been explained by the media or the politicians.
Have you taken kids to A&E recently? I have. They get prioritised but you still often have to wait. You wait in waiting rooms with chairs and normally some toys for them to play with. My son slept on my lap whist we waited to be seen last time. If I took a photo of him asleep on the chair is that evidence of "tory cuts" bringing the NHS to its knees. No its not, There has not been a time in the last 30 years where you've not had to wait in A&E or there has not been some form of shortage of beds in hospitals during the winter.
Nobody is denying the NHS needs more cash or more beds to keep up with demand but this is a cheap shot and it would not surprise me one bit if more comes out about it.
