Trouble is, even if we get relegated so will two teams with mega-wealthy owners. In fact, there are plenty of mega-wealthy owners in the Championship who never even get this far.
And as for the 21st Century, football is already being dividend between 'normal' community-based clubs (even ones with mega-wealthy owners) and the global brand clubs that attract pretty much all the worldwide broadcasting revenue. Eventually those clubs will get fed up sharing broadcasting revenue with the clubs that nobody is paying to watch and want to keep it all for themselves. They will form their own NFL style league and that will BE world football at the top level, with even England's top flight (minus the big 6 or so) reduced to the status of the Championship now. Without any chance of their clubs playing on a world stage, only a local one, how many mega-rich club owners (especially the foreign ones) will retain an interest? Our model clearly looks pretty unattractive and unsustainable now, but at some point this century it will probably become the reality for pretty much everyone else too (as it was before the global explosion in TV rights).
