That either vets these manifestos before they are published and publishes alongside them some sort of appraisal/impact statement or alternatively that you can complain to or ask to investigate these claims that politicians make during campaigns.
As far as I can see there is absolutely no means for members of the public to do this during the campaign.
Johnson should not be allowed to say “we are building 40 new hospitals” when the truth is they are not yet. He should not be able to say 50,000 new nurses when 19,000 are existing. Corbyn should not be allowed to brandish a 500 page document he knows most people will never read and spread blatant scaremongering lies on national television.
Sometimes the media or some within the media do their job and call them out on it, other times they actively help spread these lies.
It’s not a very satisfactory situation.
