Not saying the cuts have been applied in the right way, I don’t have the first hand experience of that. Clearly, if it’s the most vulnerable taking the brunt that’s not good.

In any event, even if Tory policy has worked in that way, I don’t think that’s the cause of a selfish society. Society would have been a more selfish place than it was just because that’s the direction of travel. Labour might well have had a different policy on social welfare etc I don’t think that would have meant people on the street were less selfish
