you cannot be, in this way, responsible for another's guilt.
But, you have responsibilities to yourself also - my son's school (in a quite violent part of London) sends me letters often reminding me to tell my child not to leave the school alone etc etc in the evening. That advice is not stupid. If he does expose himself to the risk, and is mugged, then the crime is not to any degree lessened, and the sentence would not reflect his failure to follow the school's advice, but he has nonetheless been a fool.
