I don't think it's really necessary

I assume you're steaming the milk via a frothing wand?
ou should be able to gauge the temp of the milk from the ambient temperature of your steaming vessel - once it starts to feel hot to the touch, but not to the point of being uncomfortable, then you're in the ball park temperature range (~55-65 degrees c).

Check out youtube, there will be a tonne of videos on how to heat milk.
