My favourite Dunc story

Showing a young friend round Carrow Road one summer. He was about 8 and a Hibs supporter. I’m a Hearts supporter. Dunc marched out of the players tunnel (he was chief scout at the time) briefcase in hand. Saw my young friend, marched up to him and shook his hand saying “Good morning young man” in his famous thundering voice. Young friend, being told by me that Dunc was a Hibby told him of his allegiance and referred to me as an “old Jambo”. Dunc looked at me with despairing eyes and informed my young friend that “old men all have their problems” and marched on towards the gate. Young friend awestruck as I explained who and what Dunc was. By the way was in my early 40s at the time!
Story 2. A pissing wet afternoon at Trowse. City reserves v Plymouth Argyle me bunking off work on a Friday pm just fancied the game. A goodly crowd round the touchline maybe 5-600. Dunc aged 39 playing like a 17 year old trying to make an impression. I mean he could have just gone through the paces but that would never be Dunc. A number of fouls given against him accompanied by the famous voice “allow a bit of challenge referee”. Legend doesn’t cover it.
