i watched the dambusters this afternoon if that's any consolation

not all of it, i had to go out just after the bit they'd cracked flying at a 150 feet using two searchlights located a the rear and the middle of the aircraft. Turns out Gibson didn't romantically devise the "spotlights altimeter" after a trip to the theatre, it was suggested by Benjamin Lockspeiser of the Ministry of Aircraft Production after Gibson requested they solve the problem.

Lovely old poetic licence though eh, Rule Britannia.
