But the point is its not. Between them the nationalists and the "other" groups hold the

majority and so far as I can tell the other group is mainly made up of the "alliance" party who are highly unlikely to vote to split from EU regulation.

So actually, unless the Unionists win a majority in a future election (in which case they have a mandate to do what they will) then they cannot force NI to leave regulatory alignment with the EU.
