I'm not a betting man myself and claim nothing more than a passing interest, but all the betting advice I've ever read suggests studying a particular corner of a market and looking for value single bets - these usually occur in markets that the bookies don't pay as much attention to. So, for example, one is unlikely to find much value in betting on Premier games (especially live games) as the market is large and so the bookies lay odds very carefully. But betting on, say, non-league football or the Spanish second division should yield better value odds and therefore better pay-offs (should you win). And instead of looking for the big one-off win, you're looking for many smallish wins over a full season or two. And never do multiple bets.
