There may be an element of double bluff about it but Smith himself

said yesterday he doesn't mind the short stuff as it means they don't bowl at his stumps and pads.

Now he may be saying that to try and get the bowlers to bowl at his pads but I still feel that with the way he walks across his stumps we should be packing the field in the areas we know he scores and firing it in at his leg stump more than we have been.
