It was made explicitly clear by the government at the time and from David Cameron's mouth that a vote to leave would mean we would leave the customs union, single market etc.
Yes, leave campaigners were more open willing to look at a wide range of options but ultimately the government's position at the time was absolute, as was the leaflet that came through the door.
The broader point i was making was that no matter what is agreed it will never be to everyone's taste but parliament have failed to find something they agree on. If they come together and agree to legislate for a soft brexit/norway or at least legislate to force the PM to ask for it then it will get a majority from parliament.
Unfortunately it will mean Nigel farage will still be relevant for years to come
