You don’t ever want your centre backs moving into full back positions. It means the other centre half having to move with you in order to close what would be a huge gap for a midfielder to run into which 9/10 is impossible as the other centre half has his own man to mark. It doesn’t matter how mobile your defenders are, or who they are, this is defending 101. You’ll continue to ship goals whoever your defenders are. Look how well Madrid done after they lost makalele, and how well Chelsea done after signing him. It’s no coincidence Kante won back to back premierships with two different clubs. This type of player is crucial in modern football.
