I'm pretty sure my great uncle was away for months at a time. Hard old life at sea for those periods I reckon.
Top bloke though.

He had a weird family history in that he was separated from his twin brother and sister after the Spanish flu epidemic killed their parents and he didn't know the others existed for 40 years or something.
