Many think tanks won’t say who funds them and their research is usually done to suit the agenda of their backers. Lobbying is a major issue - it has been in the US for a long time but seems to be growing over here too (see also propaganda and misinformation for across the political spectrum - eg use of social media ads and fake news stories)
