A guy who went to some posh boarding school in Cumbria

comes to the pub with me each week. He comments about Rugby Union being superior to league, even though nobody else in the room gives a flying s**t about union as they are watching the Super League.

When politics comes up he sticks it to the Labour Party at every opportunity. I get it, I don't bite.

Though last week he was telling quite firmly last week that 'coloured' is a perfectly normal way of describing black people. I wasn't shocked. I tried saying "but as history shows, people like S Davis junior had to use the side door of a theatre because it said "no coloureds", so surely you can see why it's an offensive term"

He instantly said "no it's a perfect normal term to describe black people"

I usually don't press people after that, I give them the chance to listen, if they defend themselves further (quite often by looking for some other twerp in the room to agree with them), I just think "well I hope you don't use that term at work one day, because it's your funeral if can't be arsed to know better"

But anyway, Socially stupid people exist amongst all or us, even those educated above their own intelligence
