Though that's irrelevant since at some point they will want (and deserve) to leave anyway, for higher wages than we could afford.

One key point I guess is that even if we know we are going to sell them at some point, we will get £10-15m minimum more for selling them if we stay up. Once you get relegated your bargaining power is massively reduced as potential buyers know that a) you need the money from selling and b) the player will be desperate to leave. Nobody surely thinks Palace would have got £50m for Wan-Bissaka if they'd got relegated last season? Would have been £30m tops.
