Presumably because that date exaggerates our figure in respect to everyone else's because we had just been relegated? Apart from Villa and Newcastle (who got relegated with us) not one of those other clubs has been relegated from the Prem in the period in question, which is the point at which most clubs have to flog their most valuable assets to balance the loss of TV income. And Newcastle came straight back up.
So the only remotely relevant comparison to our situation is Villa (down and up with us) and we all know how they've been run financially.
