pass an amendment on any piece of legislation

which requires the PM to request an extension from the EU

If there are sufficient votes in the house, Parliament can pass anything it wants.

Executive can then choose to follow it or ignore it, and if it ignores it then the house passes a no conf motion, installs an emergency government which 'does' request the extension, and then dissolves itself into a GE

If the executive tries to ignore parliament we'll have a huge constitutional crisis but, ultimately, Parliament is sovereign and will take matters into its own hands.

Europe will sit on the sidelines rather bemused and will give us whatever extension we ask for

All of this assumes that there are enough Tory MPs willing to make a stand and put country ahead of party (in sufficient numbers to offset brexiteers in Labour)

So it's not guaranteed, but it's feasible and its more likely than a No Deal.

(which is why BoJo will either come up with a Deal or put us to a GE in the hope he can swing enough votes to get a majority on his terms.)
