Moment below re:squawking

I can’t speak for all sports teams but when I helped out at a women’s American football team, the differences with the men (apart from the obvious physical strength) were ones i didn’t expect at all. One of them was that I couldn’t get them to communicate on field because many were embarrassed to raise their voices as they thought they would sound squawky.

The other one it took me a while to even realise was that there was much less fear of violent collisions than men had when starting the sport. Took me weeks to realise they were pulling out of tackles and blocks because they didn’t want to hurt their opponent. Also took me a while to learn how to fix that. I’ve been teaching men to overcome the fear of injuring themselves for years so I know how to do that, but needed to learn an entirely new set of messaging.
