I don't really see the difference between home and away ST holders in this respect

surely both groups, as the clubs most loyal supporters over more than one season, should be entitled to get a discount for going to every game? Tickets are at a premium for both home and away games, but we shouldn't be charging the most loyal supporters more, just because we can get away with it.

I agree though that this is kind of a fudge, because it still leaves those in the lurch who had accumulated lots of points, but with no AST. But don't think the concession made to AST should be the focus of the ire.
