I think the clue is in

"I was brought up on Adam and Eve
NOT Adam and Steve!"

Concern for some is that allowing (that's the word he used...) people to be visibly homosexual might encourage young people to try the same thing. When if they hadn't ever seen it, they might have carried on in a more wholesome (in his view) heterosexual way.

Not saying I agree, but in the end it's why some people don't think openness should be 'allowed'.
