This case against Jack Letts parents going on at the moment?

Am I the only one who thinks this is massive overkill?

They sent their (obviously slightly troubled) son £223 and tried to send him another grand, presumably to try and get him out of the hell hole he had ended up in.

3 week trial at the Old Bailey. Splashed all over the papers every day with it making it sound like they funded a tomahawk missile or something. I know they will say that they are making an example of them to deter others but I can’t help feel a bit sorry for the parents.
