I agree the ideal is to develop our own talent or pick up bargains and hopefully add value by improving them/playing them.
Probably the only area we seem to disagree is that I think we should very occasionally be prepared to push the boat out for the right player, for example this summer for a defensive midfielder and that may mean paying more than £10m to get the right guy.
If your scouting and player selection is good enough then that should not be a big risk. If go down you will *usually* be able to get most if not all of it back if you have got your scouting right.
We all knew Cardiff had overpaid for Murphy as close watchers of him albeit in this market a bit of hype around a player immediately appears to put them into the £10m plus bracket. I would hope that we would not get sucked in like that. I'm not sure I would put signing someone like Kalvin Phillips or a couple of the Brentford players in the same bracket as I think they are more consistent/reliable although suspect we would just be priced out there due to sheer competition and others paying higher wages.
