other times we may have to spend a bit but provided its the right player, young and with likely re-sale value then spending is not always that big a risk.
Maddison is perhaps a good example of this. We spent quite a lot on him really for the age he was when we got him. the £3/4m we spent on him is probably about the equivalent of £10m in today's inflated transfer market. But it was seen as an investment.
If we are lucky we will have players coming through in the right positions. Idah may be the next and may save us spending a fortune on a striker but to be frank i'm not sure who else we have coming through who is likely to break into the first team in the next two or three seasons if we remain in the prem, so we may have to buy and yes I hope we can pick up some cheap bargains from abroad but I don't understand this mindset that we should never consider spending big occasionally on the right player. We will make life very hard for ourselves if we set some sort of cap of £5m on transfer fees.
