I was so unsure of him for quite a while

and now I think he's superb. I hope he sees this part of the job through, and ideally would like to see us through to the beginning of 2020-21 season too (wherever we are). If we stay up and do well, I'd think that would be personally satisfying for him and put him in a really strong position. He must be aware that if he took on a huge large post tomorrow and it didn't work, his experience levels are of the doing well in the championship only.
