Dunno anyone my age who equates Ipswich with any success. Notts forest are in the public consciousness in that way. Ipswich aren't.
They did brilliantly for a small club in an era when that was still possible. Kudos to them for that. But it's like hearing an old time's witterings at the pub, I'm not sure it means anything to me. The very real difficulties they'll face next season is what I'd be worrying about if I was them.
I take no pleasure at all in their troubles. The current state of football means that but for a healthy dose of luck and some savvy appointments over the years by delia we could be where they're at (indeed 10 years ago we were...).
There's something really lovely about how we went about going up this year. Unless football finances radically change This'll be close to as good as it gets for us (or any team of our size). It'll be nice to see how the guys who got us to the top table do, and how they take their chances. Let's focus on that.
(pity is harder to take than schadenfreuder... And pity is mostly what I feel for them, when I think of it at all)
