Is it a speeding fine though. There are now schemes where villages can borrow cameras and

zap you if you are speeding and you then get a letter from the police. Its not a fine though and you don't get points but it goes on your "record" so to speak and if you get 3 such letters and then get officially caught by the police its taken into account and you have to go to the magistrates rather than just taking 3 points.

In answer to your question yes I assume either way they would have to evidence the offence if you ask for the evidence.
