What strikes me is how easy it seemed to be for him to kidnap and murder his victims. They just disappeared and no-one had a clue what was going on.

I read a piece a few months back about the spate of serial killers in the US during the 1970s. Some have linked it to the destructive relationships between fathers returning from the war and their sons.

It certainly seemed a peculiarly 70s phenomenon.
