To be honest I don't particularly care about your view on the whole thing

Just thing you should look at the bigger picture and the position trump is in now.

If democrats refuse to debate and agree border security that includes a money towards a physical border then he has options.

He can shutdown the government again whilst claiming that the democrats have acted in bad faith.

Alternatively he can declare a national emergency and get the wall built with even more money siphoned from welfare/defence and there's f**k all the courts can do about it as he can prove that he's done everything he could have done to have it agreed in congress.

Therefore in 3 weeks time he either gets what he asked for as part of the deal with the democrats or he can fully fund it himself as a national emergency without any legal challenge
