Very sad,it would be interesting to see if it was being flown VFR or IFR, hard to imagine

was VFR in the dark and with poor weather. Apparently requested decent from a level flight 5000ft to 2300ft, which could suggest he was experiencing icing (on the wings and surfaces). Freezing level was 3000ft. Could have been piston or turbo prop Malibu, both capable machines but the turbo is a helluva machine. ( And not a jet, as the Daily Mail quoted).
Shame,these things happen in general aviation
