May's strategy has been quite incompetent (two huge early errors meant the current issues became almost inevitable) but by the same token the EU works on the basis/hope that by making it sufficiently difficult to leave people will give up and change their mind. Not really the best strategy for getting widespread buy-in as if we do change our mind there will just be massive, massive resentment at the fact we've had to stay in just because they made it too difficult for us to ever leave.
The EU been helped along every step of the way by our idiotic MP's underming the governments negotiation at every stage. Even now, if May wen't back on the backstop robustly and with the backing of the whole Parliament the EU would face a very difficult choice and I think would compromise but why would they when they know the f**kwits in Westminster will ensure we move towards the softest Brexit possible if they stick to their guns.
