The GD / extra point thing is a bit misleading

When you make up points you automatically make up goal difference.

Eg to go level on points with Leeds we would need to draw next week while they lose. Our GD would remain the same while theirs would be at least 1 worse, maybe more. So we would be at least level on GD.

A team adrift at the bottom of the table that goes on a run also makes up GD on any team the catch, though there are limits.
