it's all a clear case of 'a plague on both their houses'

A kernel of truth on both sides of the argument, wrapped in an awful lot of unhelpful, pejorative rhetoric.

Somewhere in there BGF says "but the pattern with Riley ever since has been total, absolute refusal to engage with any alternative viewpoints" and that (for me) sums up both sides to this. They are all so keen to undermine the specific arguments being made by the other side that there is very little real engagement on the core issues, upon which both sides make some valid points.
