Although it does worry me that bigotry seems to have been casually swept into the list of requirements of being "right wing" these days.
I used to have plenty of friends whose political views were quite to the right, or conservative, and who still managed not to be bigots. It almost feels these days as though it is a badge of honour for those who now feel in a minority (and I am referring to a political minority rather than an ethnic minority, although some of them seriously believe that as well). The far right has done a wonderful job of drumming up siege mentality amongst those with no or little intellectual curiosity above reading a slogan on a meme on Facebook. And the genial part is that they've also managed to promote the feeling that doing any research makes you some sort of snowflake lefty because experts are biased, facts are fake news, and basically anything which suggests anything other than what they want you to believe is clearly propaganda.
Gustav le Bon explains all of these techniques in his book The Crowd: A Study Of The Popular Mind
