I do wonder though if they may need to reduce the frequency of them

The fact that these new nations league games seem a lot more competitive than many of the previous friendlies means managers are playing their strongest teams more regularly and the games have a more competitive edge. I think we may start to see some kick back from the clubs if players are coming back injured/tired as a result.
