Honestly couldn't give much of a stuff about the England team in recent - well, decades - before Southgate turned me round. Yday evening I was unavoidably otherwise engaged but seriously missing the football which suddenly was interesting and relevant even though it was a) international and b) only tangentially tournament-related. Whodathunkit.
