Who is often a parental a player, helper, brother of someone at the club. And of course it is automatically believed to be be biased. On top of that, no parent believes that their own little angel can do any wrong and it’s a recipe for disaster. We found it it to be pretty much ok over the years, there was a physical punch up at a tournament for 10 year olds once which was amazing. A mother from the opposing team came out on to the pitch, shouted at our parents and then came round the back of us and decked this chap who was completely away from the group who are usually more vocal. It turned out to be the opposing teams managers wife, he cam running across the pitch and literally jumped into our parents studs up. He later got banned by the FA for the rest of the season .
Another thing is when offside gets intruduced at about age 13,it’s so complicated to start off with for the kids, viewing parents and the volunteer linesmen to get to grips with when actually doing it.
I’ve the 8 years my lads been playing you get to know which away fixtures will have tough decisions and which won’t. However this year we have fully neutral refs provided by the FA and I’m proud to admit that my lads team has won the annual FairPlay award many times over the years. And the leagues, league cups and county cups many times. You don’t have to be rough to win, you’ve just got to be good.
