You should switch tactics

Agree with everything he says with a patronising and knowing smile on your face - include others into the joke (like the Sally Phillips character in Alan Partridge). He'll hate that.

Or do what I do to the seven year olds in my class who talk nonsense, kindly put them right by pretending you almost agree with them ('Yes, I'm sure there are some kangaroos somewhere in Austria, but do you think you might have accidentally looked up animals in Australia?')
