I think that's fair now but probably really only in the last 2 years.

He was part of that breed of manager that were good for getting out of the championship for a while (like Warnock, Pardew, Alladyce etc) but we're exposed as soon as they tried to play a more expansive style in the higher leagues.

The game has now changed again and those managers are unable to change their ways to cope. Same with Mourinho but on a different level of course.
