Competition for places

I was chatting at work with Cardiff, Newport and Man U supporters (sounds like the start of a joke...).

They were lamenting lack of competition for places in their teams. (well not the Newport chap, they're not too bad on that front).

It got me thinking. Pukki, Lewis and Tettey are probably the only guys who are guaranteed a start at the moment. Pukki will be kept on his toes by Rhodes (with further backup from szrebny). Tettey could be backed up by Thompson, trybull or Godfrey...

Our options at left back are more limited, but squad wise I think we're in pretty decent shape. Maybe lacking some pace now that onel is out.

It also looks as though (from the games I've seen) the squad is all familiar with the systems we're working.

So, while I think we've been a bit unfortunate with injuries so far, it's been great to see Stiepermann and zimmerman and Cantwell all step up and leave Farke with a selection dilemma.

I still think it'll be a tough season, but the way the team/squad is working is making me hopeful.

And its the team aspect which I think is key. For the rehabilitation of Olive, I think he needs to get back on side with his teammates as well as the manager. Not impossible, but I doubt we'll see him back unless we start hearing positive noises about his support for his teammates in training. Unless he fits in like that, I struggle to see where his place is in the squad.
