In my capacity as a Debt Adviser

They may take you to court to get a CCJ in which case you have 14 days plus two days date of service to respond. If you have any evidence to back up any defence a court officer will consider this. If defence is rejected court costs will be added and they can refer to bailiffs if not paid. If you paid using your card then this would be evidence. If cash then try and remember the time you paid and there should have been a report log by the warden.

Parking companies can only take court action if they are Accredited Trade Association (ATA). I’m guessing they will be if it’s a hospital car park.

More often than not they don’t take court action and will probably send you a 50% full and final offer to get something for the charge. By leaving it and doing nothing (I.e complaint) could prove quite costly in the long run. Could always enclose the hospital appointment letter in any complaint.
