Charlton had 7 straight years. Wigan had 8 straight years and won the FA Cup. Bolton had 11 straight years and qualified for Europe. Swansea had 7 straight years and won the League Cup. Fulham had 13 straight years and reached the Europa League Final. Sunderland had 10 straight years: however miserable most of them admittedly were. West Brom had 8 straight years, after yo-yoing for the preceding 8 years.
What on Earth makes us think that under these owners, we've been as successful as any of the clubs I've mentioned? Even QPR - even laughable, kamikaze, shambolically run QPR, THE example of how not to do it - have spent just one year fewer than ourselves in the top division this decade.
What do we get out of doing it 'our way'? Nothing. Does it protect us? Given a grand total of zero football clubs have gone bust, despite all the constant scare stories, no it doesn't. Meanwhile, Southampton plunge into administration, are at death's door... and BOOM new ownership later, and up they go to the Prem, where they've remained.
