I think he's suggesting that

they were also crap/average in their latter years at Norwich but we overlooked it because they were ours/fan favourites etc.

I think it's a fair point generally (see eg the bewilderment by some that R Martin isn't being picked up by another club), but isn't quite how I remember Sutch's last years (though I can only ever associate him with Cardiff)
