because it allowed Lewis to play further forward, where he is actually very good. Being a good wing back doesn't require you to dribble past people, it requires you to make smart decisions in the attacking third. And Lewis is very good at that (unlike say, Pinto, who generally makes poor decisions in the attacking third), as seen in the build up to the crucial first goal.
