I think the whole thing is incredibly stupid. Symbolic

of our feel good society. NFL players who are mostly millionaires making a gesture that really has very little impact on changing anyone's mind on the issue. Those players will pay hefty fines for doing so. If they really wanted to make a difference, pass on the gesture and use the saved fine money to improve children's lives in impoverished neighborhoods. A few do exactly that but sadly not nearly enough. Comes down to essentially most people just do stuff that makes them feel righteous but really doesn't accomplish anything.
