I don't think that anyone was talking political opinions though...

Isn't it ok to state differences of opinion? Some people like to discuss politics, some don't. When they do, they may use colourful language to convey how they feel, like "grinds my gears". I personally find that the biggest issue is the feeling of frustration that pervades all things these days - which comes from a political area, in my opinion, and extends into all parts of life, hence the general "bad will to all men" kind of attitude.

Anyway.
