Farcical

We were dull as dishwater last season, but at least, for the most part, we could defend... because we had a defensive system. I think he's got to go back to it. There's no point trying to play this way if we haven't got the basics right - and we don't. 6 goals conceded already against two poor opponents - but our real enemy are ourselves.

We'll always be a club prone to this sort of thing. 3-4, 4-4 and even 4-5 have cropped up too often down the years with us. But other clubs - serious clubs, who mean business - know it's all about keeping a clean sheet first, and don't kid themselves they have some mystical style of play which achieves the square root of nothing.

Difficult season ahead. Too many goals in the team to go down (I think); far, far too many weaknesses for anything better than lower mid-table.
