NBTTT Home Grown & Club developed players

Need 7 home grown players in the squad including one who is club developed. If not met, we lose a sub for each missing one. which is why I do not think we will see Cantwell or Matthews leave this year, whether on loan or permanent. Only Matthews, Lewis and Cantwell are club developed so at least one is guaranteed a squad place, and with risk of fatigue, loss of form, injuries and suspensions (at least for Lewis who would be expected to play regularly), that's getting close to a minimum unless Farke is happy to name one of the yoofs in the match day squad (e.g. Idah, Spyrou)

The following count as home grown:

Matthews, Lewis, Raggett, Husband, (Martin), (Jarvis), Godfrey, (Morris), Hanley, Thompson, Cantwell, Aarons, Marshall, Rhodes.

In brackets - very very unlikely to be in the squad. On an ability level it is very likely that if fit we will see Matthews, Lewis, Hanley, Marshall and Rhodes in the squad each game whether starting or on the bench. That leaves two spots which have to be chosen from Raggett, Husband, Godfrey, Thompson, Cantwell and Aarons when you might have a stronger or tactically more suited bench with one or two of the foreign players who would have to miss out because of the home grown role. My guess is that most likely would be Godfrey and Husband, this being why Farke wants Godfrey to work at CB as well so he can have him on the bench rather than the less versatile Raggett.

Bringing in Krul, assuming he will be the #1 or #2, means we give ourselves freedom in one more squad spot in that example, by replacing McGovern with either Krul or Matthews on the bench.

I think we can all see the positivity in this rule, however the challenge for managers is to keep the home grown players on their toes when they are almost 100% certain of a place in the squad every week. I guess the best way of doing that would be to try to fast track one or two of the youth players through to push them.

Also, looking forward to next season and beyond, City really have to push that development of our youth players because we all know that if any of our three home grown players ends up standing out, we will attract bids which we cannot refuse. At the moment we don't seem to have any home grown players on the fringes behind Cantwell - the only ones involved have been Godfrey, Thompson and Aarons none of whom are club developed.

Apologies if Captain Obvious just turned up!
